We are pleased to announce Mary Trahan has been selected as Louisiana’s CASA Volunteer of the Month for July 2021.
Mary is a life-long resident of Opelousas, Louisiana. She is a wife, a mother of four sons, a grandmother of eleven, and a great-grandmother of one. She is also an employee of the St. Landry Parish School Board and a member of Greater Shiloh Baptist Church of Opelousas.
Mrs. Trahan has been a CASA volunteer with CASA of St. Landry – Evangeline since 2019. Her first case closed successfully in May of this year. She worked with her CASA child, grandparents, and father who lived out of state to help her CASA child find permanency. Thanks to Mary’s advocacy on behalf of her CASA child, her CASA child was able to complete all of their educational requirements in St. Landry Parish before going to live at their forever home with their father in Texas.
Mary chose to volunteer with CASA because “I believed that I could make a difference in the life of a child.. I could help by being the voice of the CASA child in order that their needs and desires can be known to the parents, court and family services”. As for advice for fellow CASA volunteers, Mrs. Trahan says “One should be sincere, honest, and compassionate when building a relationship with the child”.
CASA of St. Landry – Evangeline Advocate Supervisor said “Mrs. Mary Trahan is such a phenomenal volunteer who does not mind doing what it takes to get the job done”.
The mission of Louisiana CASA is to provide a well-trained CASA volunteer to advocate for every child in the judicial system due to abuse or neglect. Our mission would not be possible without the help of people like you.
On behalf of the children we serve, thank you Mary for your commitment and service.
