A Message from the Director: Beyond Tradition - Ensuring Every Child Feels Valued

This week, my family celebrated my son’s Junior Ring Ceremony. It is one of those milestones that signifies the transition from childhood to adulthood and serves as a reminder that in a few short months, I will have a high school senior. For many, receiving that ring is a symbol of perseverance and the journey ahead. As I sat in that ceremony, I couldn’t help but notice how much this tradition has changed.

Not every student gets a class ring anymore. Some choose different mementos, while others forgo them entirely, often because of the cost. Rings have become an expensive tradition, and let’s be honest, most adults don’t even know where theirs is! While the ring itself may not always last, what truly matters is the feeling of being celebrated, supported, and surrounded by people who believe in you.

For the children in the foster care system, those moments of recognition and encouragement are often missing. They may not have a supportive adult cheering them on at a ceremony or someone to help them pick out a keepsake. Some may not even have the opportunity to participate at all. Without a stable support system, milestones like these can pass by unnoticed. That is where CASA volunteers step in to be the steady presence in a child’s life, ensuring they are seen, heard, and supported as they build their future.

So whether it’s a ring, a necklace, or simply the memory of someone standing beside them, every child deserves to feel valued. You can help make that happen. By becoming a CASA volunteer, supporting your local program, or simply spreading awareness about our mission, you can ensure that no child has to navigate life’s milestones alone.

Will you be the one to stand beside them? Learn more about how you can get involved at www.louisianacasa.org.

Thank you for being part of this mission!
